Tertiary institutions perpetuate colonial legacies, teaching Eurocentric curriculums and using English as the language of instruction with little regard for non-European pedagogy. Many students from non-Western backgrounds have felt they needed to neglect their cultural ways being knowing assimilate in university classes. University clubs aim be a safe space different ethnic groups gather on campus. As former member club – Griffith Pasifika Association, I tell our story provide an analysis experience. feel much my academic success is attributed this group, many its members, association family, where we can learn about heritage. This was not only supporting Pacific Islands, but also solidifying member’s pride. has caused necessary disruption traditional Eurocentrism tertiary education, but, through process, itself now become new domain pride students.
